Fossil A+ Tour
The Courtenay Museum is excited to offer a fun and educational tour of Dinosaurs of BC, a cool travelling exhibit from the Royal British Columbia Museum. This exciting experience is perfect for school groups and will spark students’ curiosity about the ancient creatures that once lived right here in British Columbia!
Highlights of the Dinosaurs of BC Exhibit
- Meet Buster: A unique dinosaur fossil discovered near Dease Lake in Northern BC. Known scientifically as Ferrisaurus sustutensis, “Buster” offers a rare glimpse into the province’s prehistoric life.
- Discover the Denman Island Tailbone: See a replica of an ornithomimid tailbone, believed to have travelled from the river to the sea as a “bloat and float.”
- Learn about Local Marine Fossils: Dinosaurs are rare on Vancouver Island. At the time, the region was underwater, so the fossils we normally find here are marine reptiles, like our very own Puntledge River Elasmosaur, now the Provincial Fossil of BC!
What’s Included in the Program?
- A guided tour through the Dinosaurs of BC exhibit, complemented by our permanent exhibit of locally discovered marine fossils.
