June 6th, 2024 marked the 80th anniversary of D-Day. On that day in 1944, Allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy (France) to open the way to Germany from the West. Victory in the Normandy campaign would come at a terrible cost. The Canadians suffered the most casualties of any division in the British Army Group.
The HMCS Alberni Museum & Memorial, located at 625 Cliffe Avenue, will have 80th Anniversary panels on display from now until the end of the summer. Click here to learn more about the history of D-Day and the stories of those who served.
