A Resourceful Region
January 2010 to January 2011

Coal, timber, waterways and land are just a few of the resources that brought human settlement to the Comox Valley.

How were these resources used? What was the story for individuals and families who made a living here? How have people found a balance between work and leisure even in the toughest times?

Throughout 2010, the Courtenay Museum will explore these questions and more--past and present, with A Resourceful Region, a series of three diverse exhibitions.

An Enjoyable Region, will kick off this feature year in late January 2010. This exhibit will honour British Columbia's hosting of the 2010 Olympics by viewing how people have enjoyed recreation and sports in the Comox Valley. Click here for Details

Headlines will open in early June to feature milestones in the 20th Century through headlines and news from digitized newspapers from the early 1900s up. Presented on panels and flat screen monitors, Headlines will follow the progress of commerce, energy development and resource use through the news of the day.

Portraits, a multimedia exhibit of photographs and paintings will provide a fascinating look at people from all walks of life, past and present, who have made a living in the Comox Valley. This exhibit will focus on the diversity of settlement, livelihoods and occupations.

Join us for an exciting year in 2010 as we explore A Resourceful Region.
